The object in context

Rembrandt’s print appeared in three states in KBR’s selection.

Try this when you look

Compare where light stops and shadow begins in two versions. Mark one changed area and one stable area. A change of state is evidence of work on a printing plate, not automatically evidence of a different depicted event.

Before you visit

The 2016 Librarium timetable is historical. Consult KBR’s current collection and visitor information before expecting this fragile object on display. Digital access and physical exhibition are separate possibilities.

  1. Matrix — A plate is a means of making an image.
  2. Impression — Check the reversal between plate and print.
  3. State — Look for an area changed between versions.
  4. Comparison — Explain a difference using visible evidence.
